Reindeer Facts and Fun

Reindeer facts

Reindeer facts are rarely considered, although reindeer make up an important part of Christmas. No reindeer – no toys delivered! Often children will know nothing about the animals except that they pull Santa’s sleigh and one is called Rudolf. An interesting short project towards Christmas may be to allow children to do a quick study to find out more about these beautiful creatures. Here are some sites which will help:

The Cairngorm Reindeer – this site has many reindeer facts and some written as an acrostic – one possible classroom activity!

There is a Reindeer Students Pack and Reindeer facts booklet freely available:

“The Student Information Pack contains a variety of information intended for both educational and fun purposes. Each section starts with a header page telling you what the following pages are about. Any teachers amongst you may find its format useful in the classroom. If you feel that any changes would be helpful to make the pack fall in line with particular aspects of the National Curriculum, please let us know.”(Cairngorm Reindeer Website)

The student information pack is an excellent resource for primary school covering aspects of science relevant to the curriculum as well as being easy to read and very interesting. It is a very good resource.

It finishes with a crossword puzzle, word search, the poem “It was the Night before Christmas” and filling in all Santa’s reindeer names!

The Folly Farrm Reindeer site has fun facts and lovely photos but it is basically a site selling tickets!

Santa has an ‘Official’ Reindeer Webcam with set feeding times here so you just might catch a glance of Santa too! It is sharing some footage from last year just until the elves get the camera streaming again. It is possible to add your class, or individuals, to “The nice list” here too.

EdVentures – offers 25 Reindeer craft activities if that is what would be useful on the run up to the festive season.
