A Quiet Classroom – Free Noise Indicators

Posted by:

quietNew year and a new term may be a good time to introduce something new to the classroom which could help with classroom management.

There are several free noise indicator apps or websites that can be shown on the whiteboard to demonstrate noise levels in the room, encouraging children to monitor the noise that they are making.

Bouncy Balls – A wonderful website that uses your microphone to make balls bounce around according to how much noise there is. Tell the pupils that they have to keep the balls still 🙂 This is almost impossible but the classroom will be quiet if they do manage it!

Calm Counter – Another website that activates your microphone and detects noise level. The noisier the classroom the higher the meter will go. It is colour coded – green means calm and quiet and red means it is far too noisy.

Noise Down – Sound Manager Alarm App – Great if you have an iPad linked to your whiteboard, it sounds an alarm when the noise goes over a certain number of decibels.
