Our Featured Theme for April 2017 is the captivating topic of ‘Minibeasts’

Minibeasts. This month’s featured theme is the fascinating topic of Minibeasts.  “Quite literally, a ‘minibeast’ is simply a small animal. Spiders, snails, slugs, beetles, centipedes, worms, earwigs, caterpillars… Those are just a few well-known examples of the thousands and thousands of types of ‘creepy-crawlies’ that exist all over the world. Officially, minibeasts are called invertebrates which are animals without a backbone, and these are the most numerous type of animal in the world. In Britain alone there are over 25,000 species of invertebrates known.” (YPTE)

Children really enjoy hunting and studying minibeasts and as a topic, it is a super way to get children out of the classroom and doing some great hands-on science. We have nearly 60 terrific themed websites on offer; they include resources that are suitable for EYFS, KS1 and KS2. The resources embrace the subjects of Science and Art and collectively, they cover:  what minibeasts are, what different species exist and how they can be identified, where they may be found, their habitats, what they eat, minibeast art and craft and much more besides. The resources comprise of a mixture of: information, facts, research, hands-on activities illustrations and video clips, as well as some detailed planning – each of which will effectively support this very appealing and absorbing topic.

The featured theme is updated monthly during the school year. Watch out for our great ‘Ancient Greece’ resources coming in May 2017!
